Virtual May Camp – Saturday, May 9th

Please join us for a virtual campout on Zoom this Saturday, May 9th! We will begin at 7:00 PM, and expect that the activities will go until about 11:00 PM. This will count for a night of camping, but will not count towards Year Round Camper or other Camping Awards. Here are some details on the activities and what to bring, from our SPL Alex K.:

May camp this year is going to be very different from any camp we’ve had previously. As a result of this, it will require very different things to be “brought to camp” than a normal camp would require. We should be able to make it just as fun, though (although a little shorter). The PLC planned a lot of really, really fun games for this camp!

Here are the things that everyone should have ready before May camp on May 9th:
– A phone, laptop, or other device that can be used for Zoom and can be moved around with you if you need to move. You should be able to use Zoom while using other apps on your device at the same time. If you can’t do this, you should have two devices with you if possible. If you only have access to one device and you cannot run multiple apps at the same time on it, you will still be able to participate and should still be a part of the camp. However, it will be much easier if you can run multiple apps at the same time.

-Before you “arrive” for camp, you should have a fort or tent set up somewhere (in your house is fine, but if you want to set it up outside, that’s okay too as long as you have access to power and wifi). That way, you can participate in the camp from your fort or tent. This doesn’t need to protect you from the elements, but you should make it as cool as possible.

-You should have some type of snack prepared that you can eat around 10:30-11:00 PM. It doesn’t matter what this snack is.

-You should have a charger with you for your electronic device(s). Our camp will likely take a lot of battery, and we would like to avoid people having issues due to not having a charger nearby.

-You should have some arts and crafts supplies that you can use during part of the camp. You do not need to have any particular arts and crafts supplies with you, but if you have supplies that are more 3D than flat pieces of paper, that would be ideal (play-doh, popsicle sticks, pompoms, etc.). If all you have is two dimensional arts and crafts supplies, those will certainly work. You should also have somewhere where you can make stuff with these supplies available (if you would prefer to make stuff at a table rather than on the ground, prepare for that). We will be using these for about 30 minutes of the camp to make some fun, wacky arts and crafts creations.

For the PLs only:
– PLs should be able to play the father-son newlyweds game that we usually do at Father-Son camp in March with their fathers if possible. The fathers will need to be available from around 9:00-10:00 PM for this game to work. Only the PLs need to have their fathers able to participate. PLs, please let me know if your father will not be able to participate so that we can figure out a way to make the game still work.

As far as what to wear, you can dress in your PJ’s, or whatever you feel comfortable in. We will be sending out the Zoom connection info once we get closer to camp.

We certainly hope that all of you will be able to join us for this fun and unique activity!
