Special Message from Lake Erie Council

The Lake Erie Council is bestowing the prestigious Unit Scouter Award on two leaders of Troop 701 this year. Scoutmaster Wes Kent and Advancement Chair Evan Smith are being recognized for distinguished impact on youth members through outstanding service given at the unit level.

The Unit Scouter Award is a new council-level award presented annually in the same manner as the Division Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. What distinguishes it from other bestowed honors is that recipients are recognized for service to Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Sea Scout ships.

Only 10 awards are being presented for 2019, so it’s a further distinction that two leaders from Troop 701 are being recognized in the inaugural class for this award. Unit Scouter Awards for the Class of 2019 will be presented at a council-wide recognition event on March 7.

Because of this honor, Troop 701’s annual Father/Son campout at Camp Miakonda will be moved to the weekend of March 13-15, one week later than originally planned.

The Pancake Breakfast fundraiser originally planned for March 14 will be rescheduled, and announced as soon as the new date is confirmed.

For 40 years, boys have joined Troop 701 of Strongsville, Ohio for one simple reason: "Because they wanted to." Together on the Scouting trail to Eagle they experience adventure, discovery and teamwork.
